PT-141, also known as Bremelanotide (generic clinical name), is a highly modified synthetic derivative of alpha-melanostimulating hormone, which acts as an agonist of melanocortin-4 and melanocortin-1 receptors. 

The main characteristic of PT-141 is that it non-selectively targets MCRs, including MC1R (which increases melanin expression), as well as MC4R and MC3R (expressed in the central nervous system, affecting brain pathways related to sexual response). 

Its action is also linked to the general release of dopamine in the brain, which influences sexual stimulation.
